MP Jet is a Czech model manufacturer.
These Czech engines are cheap, fairly readily available and their power output can be improved considerably by tuning. All information and photos, except where noted, were supplied by Chris Murphy with additional information about the MP Jet 061BB diesel from Dan Heinrich of Aerodyne, who uses the engine in F1J.

This engine produces 0.21 BHP at 17,000 rpm, which is at least as good as any conventional plain bearing 1.5cc diesel. It will turn an APC 7x3 at around 16,000-17,000. A single ball race supports the rear end of the crankshaft and a plain bearing supports the front end. The existence of this version may be the secret of the MP Jet potential; that it was designed and built initially as a diesel and hence stressed for the rigours of diesel operation, which allows a substantial margin of safety when tuned and operated in the high 20,000's ranges. The engine is a lot more rigid than a Stels or an AME.
Dan Heinrich uses the the diesel in F1J. He has it on the front of an Orbiteer, built from the kit but with extra area added to the wing to bring it up to 26.4 dm2 (406 sq.in) and weighing 340g (12 oz.). He says the climb is fast and it has a good, floating glide.

This engine can be distinguished from the plain bearing version by its black head and black, collet mounted prop driver. A single ball race supports the rear end of the crankshaft and a plain bearing supports the front end. It uses a special glow button which is clamped in place by a conventional head that is retained by four screws. In standard form it is nearly as good as a Cox TeeDee 09, producing 0.25 BHP at 27,000 on 25% nitro. The figure was recorded using a 5 x 2 Graupner Super propeller. That is better than the Norvel 061.
Jim Parker reports that this engine will turn an APC 6x2 propeller at 26,500 on 35% nitro.

This is a plain bearing engine. It has a shiny case, a plain non anodised head and prop driver. The prop driver is held in place by a grub screw. It uses a special glow button which is clamped in place by a conventional head, retained by four screws. There has never been any performance data published on the MP Jet 061PB.
A radial mount, pressure feed backplate and spinner nut are standard accessories.
