Rod Mogle's F1C timer was designed from the outset as a drop-in replacement for a five function Seelig F1C timer. It has the same weight, faceplate size, mounting hole placement and even the same line hookup points as the Seelig. This means that one can be dropped into an existing model with no changes needed apart from replacing the remote start button with the switch supplied with the timer: even the existing lines can be used without modifications.
Because it was designed as a drop-in, it is powered by internal capacitors which hold sufficient power for one flight. Capacitors are lighter than batteries and can be charged very fast indeed without damaging them, so charging the timer is simply incorporated in your normal pre-flight routine. It is programmed from any portable PC with a serial port and the ability to run the Parallax STAMP BS1 support program. A stepper motor is used to release the levers. Apart from a remote start switch there are no external wires on this timer.
